to these musty chapels

now tessellated

with their clavicles

femurs and scapulae,

whose very skulls grin

at this grotesquerie

of piped-in organ music

and campy souvenirs,

who—praise them!—

have shown Death up

for the folly we’ve always

suspected it must be.
